FAQ's
Frequently asked questions:
Do I need any experience with horses? No. Most people who come have never worked with a horse before. No prior experience of any kind is required. The horses are the teachers. Your job is just to show up.
Will I be riding the horses? No. All work is done on the ground. You will never be asked to ride. Everything happens in direct relationship with the horses at their level.
What if I am afraid of horses? That is completely fine and actually more common than you might think. Fear is not a barrier to this work. In many cases it becomes part of it. You will never be pushed beyond what feels safe, and the horses respond to honesty far better than they respond to performed confidence.
Are the horses forced to participate? No. Every horse at Rugged Ranch has been rescued. None of them are forced to work. Their participation is always voluntary. That is part of what makes the feedback so honest.
Where are sessions held? In-person workshops and private equine learning sessions are held at Rugged Ranch in Topanga Canyon, in Los Angeles county. You will receive specific location details after booking. To learn more about Rugged Ranch visit MindfulMustang.com.
1:1 non-equine lead coaching sessions are held virtually via Zoom.
What should I wear? Closed toe shoes are required. Comfortable clothes you don't mind getting dirty. The terrain includes a steep incline so wear appropriate footwear.
How many people are in a workshop? Eight maximum. Workshops are kept intentionally small so every participant has genuine time with the horses and genuine space to process what comes up.
Can I come if I have a physical limitation? Reach out before booking and we can talk through what the session involves and whether it is a good fit. The terrain does include a steep incline so mobility is worth discussing in advance.
What is the difference between a workshop and a private session? Workshops are group experiences with up to eight participants, structured around a specific theme and set of horse interactions.
Private sessions are one person, one hour, working directly with the herd to identify and shift a specific pattern in real time.
What is the cancellation policy? We ask for cancellation prior to 24 hours before your session time. Details will be provided at the time of booking.
